POWER Sessions is set to host the heroic night this month in Bulawayo to celebrate artistes who have had a great impact in the art industry.

The initiative is an open mic platform where poetry and comedy are the key highlights. The sessions are hosted every last Wednesday of the month.

The founder, Chengetai Sithole, popularly known as Chester said the theme was motivated by their desire to celebrate unsung heroes in art.

“The theme of this month is ‘the heroic night’ and this theme seeks to appreciate unsung heroes in art. Our belief is that people deserve to be appreciated while they are alive,” he said.

He stated that they have a number of artistes that are lined up for this month’s comedy session.

“This month on the line up we have Planet Humour, Trevor Mhlanga and Stewie Le Savage for poetry and for comedy we have A.C.E.A Comedy Enthusiasts and General Leslie. We also have a musician, Absoll Luz and TBeatx, a beatboxer,” he said.

Chester highlighted that their goal was to ensure that every form of art is incorporated and create a haven for all spoken word artistes.

“The show is dedicated to celebrating every form of art and this has seen the inclusion of different artistes in our shows. Our aim is to create a haven for different spoken word artistes in the city and we do this by giving them an opportunity to perform at least three times in the 12 shows that we have,” he said.

He highlighted that their audience was growing monthly and they are aiming to host festivals and concerts in the near future.

“We are pleased to note that our audience is growing because we started with about five people and now we have about 50 people every month. In the years to come, we hope to host festivals and concerts which will unite poets and comedians from the different parts of the region,” he said.
