According to the official guest of honour, at Gallery Delta, His Excellency the Ambassador Head of the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, Mr Aldo Dell’Ariccia: “The 57 works of art by 10 upcoming artists are testimony of the continuity of such a rich cultural spirit and creativity.
“The works exposed give a new existence to daily objects, providing them with an unexpected lively presence thus redefining their functionality beyond their primary purpose into a poetic dimension.”
The exhibition, which was organised in the framework of an action programme implemented by an Italian non-governmental organisation COSV aims at promoting civic inclusion and participation through free expression and creativity.
The organisers and sponsors of the exhibition see culture as a fulcrum and space for partnership for co-operation and dialogue between Africa and Europe.
By supporting the cultural sector in Zimbabwe and improving mutual understanding between the European Union and this country, it allows for the sharing of a common vision for the protection and promotion of diversity, freedom of expression and preservation of natural heritage.
The artists – Johnson Zuze, Victor Nyakauru, Gareth Nyandoro, Darlington Muzondo, Ann Mutema, Munyaradzi Mazarire, Clive Mukucha, Masimba Hwati and others – present assemblages derived from found objects to create compelling works.
The exhibition runs at Gallery Delta until the end of April.
