POY up for four awards

AWARD-WINNING Bulawayo-based rapper POY, real name Nicholas Muchinguri, has been nominated for four awards at this year’s Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards that are scheduled for Wing Wah International on December 17 in Harare.

POY joins other Bulawayo hip hop artistes such as DJ Mark Vusani, hip hop outfit Klap, hip hop producer P2daoh and rising hip hop artiste Calvin who has a popular track Bebengakholwa.

POY, who has five albums to his name, among them 15 Minutes of Fame and Babylon System, was first nominated for Best Male Artistes of the Year in the same category with Peekay, Schingy, Noble Styles and Stunner.

The rapper was also nominated for the Best Album of the Year for his Blood Money Jacob album in the same category with Noble Styles for his Masofa Panze 2, MMT for their LP titled MMT, Trae Yung for his The Many Moods and Number 1 from Mudiwa.

In the Video of the Year category, POY was nominated for his Dirty Game video and in the same category, POY is up against Maskiri for his Amai kani video, MMT for their Zvidhori video, Blackbird with Waiting for love and Schingy with Hamuko.

An elated POY, who has his music on international online music stores, said he was glad that what he has been working for from the beginning of the year was finally being recognised.

“My whole team is happy as we’ve been nominated for more awards in this year’s Zim Hip Hop Awards. We’ve been working hard since January and it’s exciting that Bulawayo has finally been recognised.

“It’s about time that we go to those awards and come back home with awards,” said POY.

POY, who won the people’s choice award at the first Zimbabwe Hip-hop Awards in 2011 and was nominated for Best Hip-hop Artiste at last year’s awards, has once again been nominated for the People’s choice award which is going to be awarded through a public vote.

He is up against Peekay, Tehn Diamond, Mudiwa, Tricky, J Marques, Simba Tagz, Stunner, Maskiri and Schingy.

Kasi Lami Arts Platform (KLAP) was nominated for Best Hip-hop group in the same category with MMT, Team Bho, Dolla Sign Music and Studio Fellonies.

The city’s upcoming hip hop artiste Calvin has also been nominated for the best newcomer where he is up against Noble styles, Peekay, Trey Xl and Kid Active.

Veteran DJ Mark Vusani has been nominated twice. Firstly in the best promoter of the year category for his hip hop platform It’s bigger than hip hop where he is up against Black Bird of the Hot box, Promethious of Zim Hip-hop Report, Plot Mhako of the Jibilika Dance and Elton Bryce.

Secondly, Vusani has been nominated for best club DJ together with RayDizz, DJ Kenny, DJ Deenosh and DJ Carter.

P2daoh also made it in the best producer category where he is competing with Simba Tagz, Xander, Krimz Beatz and Mr Knoxa
