UMGUZA District has emerged as the teen pregnancy capital of Matabeleland North, clocking a staggering 8 468 child pregnancies between 2023 and March 2025.
The stats were dropped during a “Not In My Village” campaign meeting spearheaded by the National Aids Council (NAC), running in Lupane.
Binga came in second with 2 798 minors falling pregnant, followed by Lupane with 2 489 cases. Hwange wasn’t spared either, clocking in at 2 487, while Nkayi recorded 2 132.
Tsholotsho and Bubi registered 2 041 and 929 cases respectively.
The “Not In My Village” drive is aimed at roping in chiefs and traditional leaders to fight child marriages, HIV/AIDS and the rising tide of teenage pregnancies.
Launched in Mashonaland Central, the campaign is now shaking up Matabeleland North, urging communities to take a stand and protect children from being robbed of their youth, education and future.
The big question now: What is happening in Umguza?
