Preps for Exide Marathon at an advanced stage

PREPARATIONS for the annual Exide Marathon are now at an advanced stage, with 1 200 athletes having registered by yesterday.

The marathon, which takes place on Sunday, starting from Old Georgians Sports Club, is expected to attract 1 500 participants.

The distances on offer are 42km in which 200 athletes will participate, 21km (600 athletes), 10km (400 athletes) and 5km (300 athletes).

In a statement yesterday, an Exide spokesperson said the race was open to both elite and social runners “as the main thrust is the physical wellness of participants”.

“There are prizes for both female and male winners for all categories,” said the spokesperson.

Representatives from the Sports and Recreation Commission and the sponsor, Chloride Zimbabwe, are expected at the event.

Participants can register online.

Veteran long-distance runner and defending champion in the women’s category, Olivia Chitate, has indicated that she is ready to roll again.
