Preparations for the Intwasa Arts Festival to be held in Bulawayo from September 23-27 have begun with the organisers calling for artistes to start applying and registering.
Director of the festival, Raisedon Baya, said preparations have started in earnest.
“Since we have announced the theme and the dates for the festival, it means that artistes should start applying and registering for this year’s edition. The deadline for the submission of the applications is May 30,” said Baya.
Baya said the entry forms were now available at Intwasa offices, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, National Art Gallery, Amakhosi Theatre and online on the festival’s website.
Baya said the festival will be running under the theme “Unforgettable”.
“There are many things about us, our cultures, our communities and our life that are unforgettable. It is those things that make us want to get together as families, friends, and communities to celebrate.”
The theme will provide a platform where old and new artistes share space.
“Old and new artistes collaborating, old and new ideas converging to create new and exciting experiences,” he said.
The festival continues to be a platform to share ideas and showcase artistic work in seven different genres of the arts that are music, dance, theatre, spoken word, literary arts, visual arts, and crafts.
Intwasa which started in 2005 as a community arts festival has grown to become the second biggest arts event in Zimbabwe after Hifa.
To date, Intwasa has hosted regional and international artistes from Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, United States of America, UK, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Wales and Zambia.
Programming at Intwasa reflects the diversity and complexity of world cultures the festival seeks to promote and celebrate them.
