Preserve old institutions, says Mutambara

adequately provide for these old institutions.
The dinner — slated for October 27 at Hartzell High School, Old Mutare Mission — seeks to raise US$2 million to support infrastructure development at the mission’s school, hospital and orphanage.
The mission is run by the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. “African institutions must never die or be allowed to decay,” he said.
“In fact, they must get better through those who inherited them. We all have a duty to ensure survival of these institutions. Government has got many obligations hence the need for everyone, including those in the Diaspora to chip in.” DPM Mutambara said Old Mutare Mission has a long history that should be preserved.
Zimpapers group chief executive Mr Justin Mutasa, who is vice chairperson of the Board of Governors of the United Methodist Church Old Mutare Mission Centre, said the school and hospital development should be defended at all cost. Mr Mutasa is also a former Hartzell High School pupil and teacher.
“Being a product of the school and having produced some of the best geographers and nurses in the country, it is our duty to maintain those standards by ploughing back to the school,” he said.
Mr Mutasa said the mission centres should be maintained and supported so that they continue producing “great people”.
Hartzell produced outstanding citizens, academics and champions of industry, including DPM Mutambara,  Deputy Minister of Economic Planning, Dr Samuel Undenge and presidential spokesperson Mr George Charamba.
