President Mnangagwa has arrived in Tanzania for the joint Sadc and EAC Summit that is expected to thrash out a peaceful resolution to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) crisis where the government is fighting rebels in the eastern part of the country.

The President, who will join other African Heads of State and Government tomorrow for the joint Sadc-EAC Summit, was welcomed at the Julius Nyerere International Airport by Miss Lela Muhamed Mussa, Minister for Education, the revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania Helen Dingani.
Earlier today, Foreign Affairs Ministers from Sadc and the EAC attended precursor meetings to the joint summit.

As the Sadc Chairperson, President Mnangagwa will co-chair the joint conference with his EAC counterpart President William Ruto of Kenya.
Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame are also expected to attend the summit as the main protagonists in the three-decade-long conflict that has lately threatened to ignite a regional war in the Great Lakes region.
DRC accuses Rwanda of sponsoring marauding rebel groups in its rich eastern region, charges which Kigali stridently refutes.
