PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has opened economic avenues for a new generation to flourish in their areas of trade, resulting in the phenomenal resurgence of the Zimbabwean economy, Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa has said.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday to provide an update on the outcomes of the two political meetings held last week — the Politburo and Central Committee — Cde Mutsvangwa stated that Zanu-PF is preoccupied with the state of the economy.

“We have a new crop of indigenous people who are doing well in their areas of speciality, we need to support and respect them.

“Some of them are doing well in gold mining, tobacco and manufacturing sectors. This is a new breed of successful business people,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

He stated that during the two political meetings, President Mnangagwa had been taking stock of the phenomenal resurgence of the Zimbabwean economy, which now even the country’s former detractors acknowledge.

“Generally, this economy is bullish, with frantic growth in investments in steel, in lithium, and even in agriculture. All those investments are outpacing the existing infrastructure, which the country has, the historical infrastructure.

“So, the President is grappling with this mismatch between the infrastructure, which is required to save the new economy and the growth in investment in the new economy,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

Turning to the Zanu-PF Annual National People’s conference set for next month, Cde Mutsvangwa said the party is more than ready to host the annual indaba.

He said the party’s chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, is very happy with the preparations.
“We just held our review conference in Manicaland a week or two ago. Some of the infrastructure is going to be inherited from Sanganani/Hlanganani Travel Expo, which was held in Mutare.

“So, we are up to scratch with the provision of the delegates in terms of accommodation, in terms of food, in terms of all the aspects about that conference, the registration,” he said.

The teams, he said, are already circulating in the provinces, registering delegates.
“We are up to speed. We are very happy. The party will also be flighting a number of documentaries, which celebrate the role of Manicaland, some of the epic battles of the National Liberation Struggle,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

“It must be done positionally, telling the Zimbabwe story. There will be stories about the attack of the Grand Reef Airport in 1977-78.”

He said there will be a lot of activities lined up at the conference.
