President Mnangagwa is among the 26 Heads of State scheduled to attend China’s 80th anniversary of the Allied Powers’ victory in World War II next week, China’s government has confirmed.

Addressing a press conference in Beijing on Thursday morning, China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei said Russian President Vladimir Putin will be the guest of honour at the event.

Other Heads of State who have confirmed attendance include the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko and President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo.

Heads of State from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, Serbia, Slovakia, Cuba, Myanmar, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries will also attend.

China will stage a massive military parade on September 3 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Tens of thousands of soldiers are expected to participate in the parade that will showcase China’s military prowess.

“A range of newly developed aircraft will make their parade debut,” said parade organisers.

“These front-line combat models, now in active service, represent cutting-edge equipment for high-end warfare.

“The air echelon will fly in integrated combat formations, bringing together early-warning and command, strategic projection and anti-surface capabilities from the Army, Navy and Air Force. Some aircraft carry live weapon loads,” the organisers added.

China’s partnership with Zimbabwe is officially designated as a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation.

This designation places Zimbabwe in a high category of China’s diplomatic relationships.
