President Mnangagwa appoints new Chief Justice, Deputy CJ

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has appointed Constitutional Court judge Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza as the new Chief Justice, who will take over from Chief Justice Luke Malaba after his tenure ends today.
In a statement today, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, said the President has made the appointment in terms of Section 180(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
“Honourable (Justice) Elizabeth Gwaunza is qualified for the appointment, having served as the Deputy Chief Justice since March 29, 2018,” said Dr Rushwaya.
Justice Gwaunza will be deputised by Justice Paddington Garwe.
The appointments are effective tomorrow.
A special court sitting was today held at the Constitutional Court in honour of Chief Justice Malaba.
