Zvamaida Murwira in LUANDA, Angola
President Mnangagwa has arrived in Luanda, Angola, where he will join fellow Heads of State and Government in commemorating the country’s 50th independence anniversary.
He was welcomed at Four de Fevereiro International Airport by Angola’s Foreign Affairs Minister Tete Antonio, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Angola, Dr Thando Madzvamuse, staff from the Zimbabwean Embassy in Angola, and senior Government officials from both Zimbabwe and Angola.

President Mnangagwa is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira; Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet responsible for Presidential Communications, Mr George Charamba, and other senior Government officials.
Upon his arrival, President Mnangagwa was taken to Republican Square, the venue of the celebrations.
Angola attained its independence from Portugal on 11 November 1975.
Zimbabwe and Angola enjoy cordial bilateral relations rooted in the liberation struggle, where Luanda provided bases to allow Harare to execute its liberation efforts.
Both are members of SADC and the African Union, with Angola’s President João Lourenço being the AU chairperson.
