President Mnangagwa has paid tribute to the late national hero, Air Commodore (Rtd) Simon Brian Bere, describing him as a dedicated cadre who devoted his life to serving Zimbabwe with unwavering loyalty.

Addressing mourners at the National Heroes’ Acre this morning, the President said Air Commodore Bere was being laid to rest among other illustrious sons and daughters of the country.

He said the burial marks a final national acknowledgement of Air Commodore (Rtd) Bere’s contribution to the liberation struggle and his professional service in the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

The President urged Zimbabweans, especially the young generation, not to take the country’s freedom for granted.

He said freedom was secured through sacrifice at a high cost, adding that Zimbabwe’s independence was fought for by citizens who laid down their lives during the struggle, including “grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles and aunts”.

Mnangagwa also called on every Zimbabwean to reflect on their role in the country’s development, saying the nation must be built through commitment and constructive action.

“Zvibvunzei kuti tingaitei kuti nyika yedu ibudirire iende mberi.

“Iwe neni tose tine basa. Ndangariro dzedu ngadzive dzekuvaka nyika yedu kwete kuputsa,” said President Mnangagwa.
