Police have reiterated that the ongoing operation against drug and substance abuse is continuing countrywide until sanity prevails.

This comes after several suspects were arrested in separate incidents, leading to the recovery of various illicit drugs and medicines.

Some of them have since been fined or jailed, while others still have cases pending before the courts.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has since applauded members of the public and the courts for their continued cooperation and support in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

“This follows the conviction of Sylia Tanyanyiwa, aged 41, and Simbarashe Maenzanise, aged 41 for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs, including dagga and Broncleer Cough Syrup,” he said.

“Sylia Tanyanyiwa was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment, while Simbarashe Maenzanise received an effective sentence of four years and six months’ imprisonment.

“The ZRP urges the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting drug-related activities. The Police reiterates that crime does not pay and that the fight against drug and substance abuse will continue.”

Meanwhile, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics acted on a tip-off and arrested Francis Mupondi (48) at Chatsakama Village, Makaha in Mudzi for unlawful possession of a contraband of Broncleer Cough Syrup.

The suspect is still in custody and assisting with investigations.
