President Mnangagwa has conferred General Emmanuel Matatu with his new rank as Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) at State House in Harare today.

General Matatu took on the role on November 21, following the retirement of General Philip Valerio Sibanda.

During today’s ceremony, General Matatu vowed to uphold the Constitution, follow the President’s guidance, and support Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.

He also pledged to follow the legacy of past ZDF Commanders, including Vice President General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga, General (Retired) Valerio Sibanda and the late national hero, General (Retired) Vitalis Zvinavashe.

The investiture was attended by Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, ZNA Commander Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, Service Chiefs, and Government Ministers.
