HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa is hosting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at State House in Harare this morning, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to disability inclusion and empowerment.

President Mnangagwa launched the National Disability Policy in June 2021, and the event comes as part of Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to implement it.
The policy aims to address the marginalisation and discrimination faced by people with disabilities while promoting their rights and participation in society.
In 2022, the Government established the Technical National Coordination Committee to oversee the policy’s implementation.

Zimbabwe has taken significant steps to enhance disability inclusion, including developing a SADC-wide Protocol on Disability Rights, aligning national budgetary processes with disability policies, and improving services for PWDs.

The country also actively participates in the annual commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on December 3.
Today’s engagement at State House underscores the Government’s dedication to ensuring that disability rights remain at the forefront of national development strategies.
The event is expected to provide a platform for discussions on policy implementation and additional measures to enhance the welfare of persons with disabilities across Zimbabwe.
The country also participates in the commemoration of The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is observed on December 3 each year.
