President Mnangagwa will undertake his inaugural visit to the Sadc Secretariat headquarters in Botswana on Friday following his assumption of the bloc’s chairmanship during the 44th Sadc Summit of Heads of State held in Harare in August.

During their tenure, chairpersons of the regional bloc visit the Sadc Secretariat to meet with management and address staff.

Botswana President Duma Boko will accompany President Mnangagwa as the host President.

The Sadc Headquarters building will also be officially handed over to the bloc’s chairman on behalf of the region by Bongwe Investments Proprietary Limited.

In an interview, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Botswana Henry Mukonoweshuro said: “First will be a familiarisation tour where the President will meet the Sadc Secretariat to get an appraisal of what they do on a day-to-day basis in driving the regional agenda of integration.

“Following our assumption of the chairmanship in Harare in August, we are going to push for innovation because that is key to the implementation of industrialisation, agro-processing, and mineral beneficiation,” said Ambassador Mukonoweshuro.
