THE second edition of the All-Councillors Indaba, where President Mnangagwa engages with councillors from the country’s 92 local authorities, will be held in Bulawayo in March 2025.

The inaugural Indaba took place in Harare in November last year, where the President strongly condemned corruption in councils and launched the Call to Action: No Compromise on Service Delivery blueprint.

Speaking during his keynote address at a heritage training workshop for Matabeleland North councillors at a Bulawayo hotel on 28 February, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe said President Mnangagwa will address the long-standing issue of councillors’ welfare during the upcoming interaction.

“Before I take my seat, as you know, President Mnangagwa made a promise to engage with all councillors from our local authorities on a quarterly basis. He will be here in Bulawayo within the first two weeks of next month,” said Minister Garwe.

He urged councillors and executive council staff to prepare thoroughly for the meeting with the President.

“I can pre-empt some of the issues His Excellency will address, including your welfare in terms of allowances, which have been reviewed to what I believe are acceptable levels. There is also the issue of housing stands as well as a duty-free car import scheme. All this is because he is a listening leader, and your concerns have been heard,” said Minister Garwe.
