President Mugabe has promoted seven more senior police officers to ranks between commissioner and assistant commissioner. All the seven promoted now await vacancies for their ranks.
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the promotions yesterday.
“Further to our Press statement please be advised that the following senior officers were also promoted and put on waiting list,” she said.
Of the seven, three senior assistant commissioners were promoted to the rank of commissioner and they are Godfrey Munyonga, Elliot Mind Ngirandi and Angeline Guvamombe.
Two assistant commissioners, Elias Mvere and Jonathan Chituku, were promoted to the rank of senior assistant commissioner while chief superintendents Zeckias Mupini and Maxwell Chikunguru were promoted to the rank of assistant commissioner.
Following the recent promotions, there are now seven commissioners, 16 senior assistant commissioners and 34 assistant commissioners.
On Thursday, President Mugabe promoted four senior police officers to the rank of commissioner and 454 others to the ranks between senior assistant commissioner and inspector.
Of the 454, 14 were promoted to senior assistant commissioners, 32 assistant commissioners, 45 chief superintendents, 86 superintendents, 28 chief inspectors and 249 inspectors.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the officers were promoted after a rigorous exercise, which included written examinations and board interviews.
