President splits Lands, Agriculture Ministry

President Mnangagwa has split the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development into two ministries and made fresh senior appointments in Government with immediate effect.

The development was announced yesterday by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya.

“Following a review of the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development portfolio, His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa notifies that the Ministry has been divided into two separate portfolios,” said Dr Rushwaya.

The two new portfolios are the Ministry of Lands and Rural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

Dr Rushwaya said the restructuring was effected in terms of Section 104(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

He said President Mnangagwa had appointed Cde Vangelis Haritatos as Minister of Lands and Rural Development, while Dr Anxious Masuka has been re-assigned as Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

“Consequently, in terms of Subsection 1 of Section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has made the following appointment and re-assignment,” said Dr Rushwaya.

“The appointment and re-assignment are with immediate effect.”

In a related development, Dr Rushwaya announced the appointment of Mr Paul Chikawa as Director-General in the President’s Department.

“In terms of Section 226(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Mr Paul Chikawa as the Director-General, President’s Department. The appointment is with immediate effect,” he said.

Dr Rushwaya also announced the re-assignment of Ms Fungayi Jessie Majome from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to the Public Service Commission.

“In terms of Section 202(1)(b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has re-assigned Ms Fungayi Jessie Majome from the position of the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to the position of Commissioner in the Public Service Commission. The re-assignment is with immediate effect,” he said.

The changes come as Government continues to streamline ministries and strengthen institutional efficiency in line with nationpriorities.qent priorities.
