President Mnangagwa will headline the launch of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Institutional Strategic Plan (2021-2023) on Sunday.

The launch will coincide with the commemoration of the 5th African Anti-Corruption Day, which is running under the theme “Regional Economic Communities: Critical Actors in the Implementation of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption”.

In a statement, ZACC spokesperson Commissioner John Makamure said the anti-corruption watchdog will use the event to assess progress it has made in fighting graft.

“For Zimbabwe, this year’s commemorations come at an opportune time following the launch on 11 July 2020 of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) by His Excellency the President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Comm Makamure.

“The day will therefore mark the first anniversary of the NACS and witness the launch of the ZACC Institutional Strategic Plan (2021 – 2023) that is Integrated Results-Based Management compliant.

“This provides a platform for ZACC, and indeed Zimbabwe, to assess the progress made so far in the implementation of the strategic document which is critical in the fight against the cancer of corruption today and tomorrow.”

Commemorating the African Anti-Corruption Day provides an opportunity for exchanging ideas and best practices in the fight against corruption within the region.

It also seeks to assess the continent’s performance on domestication of legislation such as African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC).

“The continental aspirations of greater economic growth and activity under the African Continental Free Trade Area may not be adequately realised unless corrupt practices in member states are effectively dealt . . .” added Comm Makamure.
