PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is expected to launch a US$2 million Empowerment Scheme for Children of Liberation War Veterans on June 4, 2025.
This landmark initiative, introduced by President Mnangagwa, is designed to promote socio-economic empowerment, capacity building, and developmental opportunities for the children of Zimbabwe’s liberation war veterans.
The scheme underscores the association’s commitment to honouring the legacy of the liberation struggle by investing in the future of the descendants of those who made sacrifices for the country’s independence.
In an interview, Children of Liberation War Veterans spokesperson Cde Lenin Samhembere confirmed that at least 7 000 children of War Veterans are expected to converge at the Midlands Winery Convention Centre, in Gweru, for the event
“We expect 7 000 children of war veterans to attend, along with numerous Government ministers,” said Cde Samhembere.
“The event is a crucial step towards inclusive development and recognising the vital role of the families of liberation war heroes in Zimbabwe’s national transformation.”
The event will be hosted by the Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (CZLWVA) in conjunction with the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs.
The empowerment scheme will run under the theme, “Legacy in Our Blood, Empowerment In Our Hands”.
Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara, who will launch the scheme on behalf of the President, will be the guest of honour.
Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa Junior, Patron of the Children of War Veterans and several other government ministers will be in attendance.
Cde Samhembere announced that all children of war veterans are invited to attend this important event, which marks a critical step towards inclusive development and acknowledges the vital role played by families of liberation war heroes in Zimbabwe’s ongoing national transformation.
Additionally, attendees will receive farm mechanisation and mining equipment as part of the initiative.
“We are expecting to receive farming and mining equipment and more than US$2 million, which will be distributed according to provinces,” said Cde Samhembere.
