President Mnangagwa has urged war veterans to intensify grassroots mobilisation as Zanu PF sets its sights on securing another resounding victory in the 2028 harmonised elections.

Addressing the third National Assembly of the War Veterans League in Harare today, the President and Zanu PF First Secretary described the gathering as a vital platform to consolidate the role of veterans of the liberation struggle in shaping the country’s political and socio-economic future.

He said the League, whose membership includes combatants, restrictees and prisoners who participated in the liberation struggle, carries the responsibility of guiding the nation with wisdom, loyalty and patriotism.

“Today we are celebrating the loyalty and courage of those who fought in the liberation struggle. Going forward, as we now focus on winning resoundingly in the 2028 elections, I call upon the war veterans to scale up grassroots mobilisation,” he said.

The President highlighted that war veterans remain central to Zanu PF’s identity and strength, urging them to continue mobilising not only their own ranks but also wider communities to support the party’s developmental agenda.

“We must be conscious of the challenges facing liberation movements in the region, and as Zanu PF, we stand ready. The spirit of ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ must guide us as we mobilise for national development and unity,” he added.

President Mnangagwa reaffirmed Government’s commitment to honouring war veterans, citing the establishment of a dedicated ministry for war veterans’ affairs as part of fulfilling constitutional obligations.

He also pointed out empowerment initiatives that have seen tractors being distributed to war veterans.

“As the Second Republic, we remain committed to improving household incomes and ensuring that your sacrifices are honoured through tangible support,” he said.
