Villagers in Centenary are revelling in glory following the successful implementation of the Presidential borehole scheme and nutritional gardens in their area which has led to food security, job creation and income generating projects.

A state-of-the-art solar powered borehole and a nutritional garden set up in August by Prevail Group International contracted to do the Presidential Boreholes projects countrywide has since seen people reaping rewards through the selling of their produce which include butternuts, tomatoes and green mealies.

Youths, women and the elderly who used to spend time lying idle have now also benefitted jobs with 40 people working on a nutritional garden.

A beneficiary Mrs Tsitsi Mudiwa said they had challenges of water since the year 2000 when they occupied the place after benefitting from the land reform programme.

“We used to drink water from the river and an unprotected well known as Chimukombe. God remembered us when President Mnangagwa visited this place, he had already given us a borehole and a nutritional garden.

“Since then we started accessing clean potable water. We are also embarking on farming, watering our plants using drip system that was availed by our President. We are more than glad,” she said.

Mrs Mudiwa said the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme has also led to job creation.

“We now spend most of our time in the nutritional garden. We are farming butternuts, maize and tomatoes which we are selling to the community. We are now able to eke out a living, all thanks to President Mnangagwa,” she said.

Mr Takawira Bayisai who is the chairman of Rovambira garden in Kenwith farm, Dora district in Centenary hailed President Mnangagwa for providing them with a fenced nutritional garden.

“We never knew how to use a drip system but now it is on our fingertips. It has changed our lives as only two people can take care of the watering of butternuts, tomatoes and maize while the rest do other chores.

“President Mnangagwa is supporting the land reform programme, hunger is now foreign to us. The initiative is catering for all age groups with 40 beneficiaries including seven men, 12 youths and 10 elderly,” he said.
