THE Presidential Hospital Renovation Programme has shifted its focus from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where Prevail International Group is partnering the institution to upgrade facilities to standards comparable to Dubai.
Sally Mugabe Central Hospital Director of Operations Ms Precious Chipangura said the hospital was repurposing its old rehabilitation building into four specialised departments to meet urgent community needs.
She emphasised that the renovations will create a Foetal Maternal Unit, a kangaroo centre for premature babies, a Family Support Clinic, and a modern Ophthalmology Clinic.
“That is where growth monitoring of the babies in utero is done. And we are going to have the kangaroo centre where the babies are nursed,” said Ms Chipangura.
“The Family Support Clinic is more like a victim-friendly unit where victims of unpredictable events come for support.”
She also highlighted the urgency of completing the project quickly to serve waiting patients. She said that timelines are critical because patients are already in need of the services.
“We are hoping that it takes the minimum amount of time because we are ready to use the building. We have patients who are already waiting for the building to be completed,” she said.
She expressed excitement about the transformation of the facility’s infrastructure.
“The renovations will modernise the hospital’s appearance and functionality, from floors to ceilings,” she said
Engineer Tafadzwa Kavaza said the engineering team is focused on ensuring the hospital’s infrastructure meets international standards.
“All the floors are going to be replaced with porcelain tiles and epoxy. The walls are going to be repainted, interior and exterior,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of modernising the hospital’s electrical systems and windows. He said the upgrades will improve both aesthetics and functionality.
