THE Presidential Poultry Pass on Scheme, which is being implemented by the Zanu PF Women’s League, in partnership with Young Women for Economic Development (YW4ED), is on course to promote growth among Village Business Units.

Through the scheme, each province is receiving 10 000 chicks, where Midlands Province was the first beneficiary. Matabeleland South province will be the second beneficiary at an event to be held at Plumtree High School for a tentative date of September 3.

The scheme is part of broader empowerment programme meant to alleviate the plight of young women in society.

Speaking at a meeting between the ruling party, party affiliates, Government officials and various stakeholders, Zanu PF Women’s League Secretary for Legal Affairs and central committee member Cde Cecilia Bhebhe-Ndubiwa said the chicks will help women participate in economic development at village level thereby boosting Village Business Units (VBUs).

VBUs are registered rural development enterprises designed to stimulate economic activity, foster food security and empower communities.

“This programme is perfectly aligned with the pillars of NDS1 and will be a catalyst for the success of our VBUs thereby accelerating our collective march towards the attainment of Vision 2030.

“Women’s League is steadfastly dedicated to the empowerment of young women and offers its full support to this program. We stand ready to work with our partners in YW4ED and all implementing bodies,” said Cde Bhebhe-Ndubiwa.

She urged party and Government stakeholders to work together to make the programme a success.

“When you empower young women, you empower communities and the future. As we embark on this programme we must have unity of purpose and as Women’s League we are committed to the empowerment of young women.

“We must have a unity of purpose to transform this initiative from policy into tangible prosperity for our people,” said Cde Bhebhe-Ndubiwa.

YW4ED National Programmes Coordinator Ms Sithabile Gandi-Ndlovu said the affiliate is pleased to work with the ruling party’s Women’s League, whose invaluable experience and pioneering work have paved the way for women in business and politics.

“We believe in the power of intergenerational partnership and are committed to learning from those who have traveled this journey before us. Our specific role at YW4ED is to ensure that the scheme effectively targets and empowers young women.

“We will spearhead programmes that provide them with the necessary training, resources and market access to not only participate but to thrive. Our ultimate goal is to move young women from mere participation to genuine financial freedom and economic leadership. We look forward to working with all stakeholders to make this initiative a resounding success for the young women of Matebeleland South and across the nation,” said Ms Gandi Ndlovu.

Zanu PF Matabeleland South Provincial Women’s League chairlady Cde Sindisiwe Nleya urged party members to ensure the distribution benefits all corners of the province.
