Some people are shocked after learning the bizarre job Pope Francis had before becoming the head of Catholic Church.
The pontiff, who died on Easter Monday aged 88 at the Saint Martha residence in the Vatican, previously had a very unexpected job.
After being elected in March 2013, Francis took on his new name as a tribute to St Francis of Assisi.
However, he was previously known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, or Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina at the Vatican.
But before joining the clergy, the Pope, who grew up in Buenos Aires to Italian parents, once worked as a nightclub bouncer.
The late Pope revealed his previous line of work while on church visit in Rome in 2013.
He also worked as a janitor before become a priest, and eventually making his way to the highest office of the church.
Not only that but he took part in hobbies such as tango dancing and supporting his local football club, San Lorenzo.
Before ‘marrying the church’ the Poper had an early love interest in the form of a girl named Amalia Damonte.
She later recounted that he proposed to her despite their parents disapproving.
Bergoglio allegedly told her: ‘If I can’t marry you, I will become a priest’.
Damonte added: ‘Fortunately for him, I said no.’
He became a Jesuit, members of the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order of men founded by Ignatius of Loyola, and studied philosophy and taught literature and psychology.
Within four years, he was leading the local Jesuit community and in 1998 he was appointed archbishop of Buenos Aires.
He was created a cardinal three years later by Pope John Paul II.
By then, he had garnered the nickname of the ‘Slum Bishop’ after focusing on poverty relief in the most deprived parts of Buenos Aires − Daily Mail.
