A thrilling primary school soccer tournament has kicked off, featuring four local schools from Herentals: Nkulumane, Luveve, Cowdray Park, and Gwanda.

The tournament is divided into three age categories, Under 11, Under 13, and Under 9, with both boys and girls participating.

According to Mr Bhekisani Ndlovu, Head of Herentals Nkulumane Primary School, this provincial tournament is the first of its kind in Bulawayo, with plans to send the winners to Harare for the national competition.
“The tournament seeks to unleash potential in local talent. In all corners of our country today, at Herentals Group of schools, decentralised Zonal games are taking place. Over 11,000 learners are kicking the ball in the 84 schools that we have,” he said.
“It is a special moment we are at. As the host centre, we are saying let us enjoy the day, cheer our learners, have fun, and identify talent.”

Mr Ndlovu also said that the tournament is significant as it aims to promote young talent and encourage learners in Bulawayo to cultivate their skills in sports.
