“To that effect, they were going to start receiving progress reports on constitution-making from the management committee. However, the management committee is not ready to give the report to the principals. The management committee is meeting today (yesterday) and cannot give the comprehensive report.”
A source within Copac said the management committee yesterday requested some of the reports that will be handed over to the principals.
The management committee comprises negotiators to the inter-party talks – Cdes Patrick Chinamasa and Nicholas Goche (Zanu-PF), MDC-T’s Mr Tendai Biti and Mr Elton Mangoma.
Other members are Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga and Mr Moses Mzila Ndlovu (MDC).
Mr Charamba said it was against the backdrop of squabbles among parties tasked to craft the new Constitution that the principals resolved to have updates from the management committee.
Principal drafters of the new Constitution last week produced the first draft of the new supreme law of the country that is now being reviewed by the Constitutional Select Committee with the assistance of some technical experts.
The draft contains 18 chapters.
