THE Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Andrew Langa, has urged clubs and talent scouts to take full advantage of the National Youth Games by identifying athletes with the potential to achieve big things in their respective sporting careers.He made the call while addressing delegates at the official launch of the 2015 National Youth Games held at a local hotel in Mutare.
Langa said Government would chip in with financial assistance towards the hosting of the Games, but called on stakeholders in the hosting province to work extra hard in mobilising resources to ensure a successful edition of the Games.
“I am confident that these Games that we are hosting here in Manicaland are in the safe hands of Mandi Chimene. As Government, we are happy with achievements that have been made since the inception of the Games in 2003.
“The Games actually dovetail into the Zim-Asset agenda that we have as a nation in the sense that they enable us to achieve social cohesion as well as create employment.
“We also want to call upon clubs and talent scouts to come to the party and take advantage of the Games as they select athletes that have the potential to achieve big things in their respective careers. It is their opportunity to scout for talent,” said Langa.
Manicaland will be hosting the Games on August 15 to 23. The province will be hosting the Games for the second time since their inception back in 2003.
Speaking at the same function, Minister of State for Manicaland Affairs, Mandi Chimene, said the prevailing harsh economic conditions should not deter the corporate community from donating generously towards the event.
Various provincial heads of Government departments and members of the business community graced the official launch.
