MATABELELAND Trade and Investment Initiative Network board member Tayi Sibanda has died.
He was 60.Family spokesperson Sipho Sibanda confirmed the death of his father who succumbed to pulmonary embolism at the United Bulawayo Hospitals on Friday.

“This was a sudden death. He has not been sick all along. We are looking forward to have him buried at West Park Cemetery on Saturday,” he said.
Matabeleland Trade Network’s chairperson Donald Khumalo said they learnt of Sibanda’s death with a heavy heart.

“As the Matabeleland Trade and Investment Initiative Network, we have learnt with profound sadness the untimely demise of Sibanda, our colleague who has left us at a time when we were working on courting investors from South Africa to come and invest in different sectors of the economy in Matabeleland and the country at large.

“Losing such a robust colleague is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions and the unpleasant pain we’re experiencing calls us to pray and seek comfort from the Lord.

“Together with his family, we share the loss and grieve with the family. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.

Sibanda was based in South Africa for quite a long time where he started his own company with a view to luring investors into the country.

As a result of his vision, they teamed up in the Matabeleland Trade and Investment Initiative Network to try and lure investors into the region and the country at large.

“He has gone at a time when we were busy preparing to invite a business delegation from South Africa into Matabeleland to seek strategic partnerships with locals in different sectors such as mining, tourism, agriculture and manufacturing,” said Khumalo.

Early this year, Sibanda was instrumental in organising a tour of the region by a delegation of South African investors’ representatives comprising the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mourners are gathered at House Number 30 Nicholson Road, Romney Park, Bulawayo.
