Grace Faith Ministries founder, prophet Charles Matondo, has been acquitted of extortion after he was accused of demanding US$70 000 from an unsuspecting couple.
Matondo appeared at the Harare Magistrate Court where he managed to convince the court that the matter was fabricated by the complainant, Killiana Bangure.
The self-styled prophet was represented by his lawyer Oliver Marwa.
The court ruled that the State had failed to prove its case after Bangure claimed that Matondo had deceived her and her husband that their Glen Lorne house had evil spirits.
Bangure had alleged that Matondo claimed the house was haunted and needed special cleansing that would last three months.
She claimed she was barred from visiting the premises during the period while Matondo used it without paying rent.
Bangure alleged that after cleansing, Matondo demanded US$70 000 for his services failure to which he would bring calamity on her husband and son.
However, Bangure failed to provide any proof that Matondo demanded the cash or threatened to harm her family.
Matondo was acquitted and discharged.
