Prophet Ngwenya shows off

HE fed two thousand people with four cows, hundreds of chickens and a truckload of soft drinks to celebrate his 41st birthday.

Popular Bulawayo Prophet Thabiso Ngwenya flexed his financial and social capital as he brought Pumula South and the rest of Bulawayo together on a Sunday to sing a?happy birthdaya?.

A rockstar by some standards, Ngwenya began the prophetic ministry long before the likes of Prophet Walter Magaya and Emmanuel Makandiwa had their own churches.

a?The Lord is good to me,a? he said, addressing the thousands that came to party with him at his Faith In Christ International headquarters in Pumula South.

Upon entry at the church premises, this reporter was greeted by a long winding queue of children waiting patiently for their chance to get gift packs.

One would have been forgiven to suspect that it was a rally of the most popular political party in the area because everyone there was pro-Ngwenya.

Women could be seen gyrating to gospel music and ululating, perhaps part of the church womenas league.

But again, there were some who had no clue who the birthday boy was, the food was an incentive to pull big numbers.

a?I only see big cars driving in and out of this place everyday. To say I know who Prophet Ngwenya is, would be a lie.

But this party is better than most weddings that I have been to,a? said Sicelo Ncube.

There was enough for everyone as such, the police detail tasked with seeing the bash going on smoothly had no physical confrontations.

The Zimbabwe Prisons Brass BandA was on show with good music as well as a Tswana cultural group Tjilenje Tje Ngwao, Botswanaas leading cultural dance group.

The founder of the group, Ngwisiwa Ntogwa, told B-Metro that the prophetas prayers were behind his crewas success.

a?We are happy to have come down to entertain our prophet. He is one of the reasons why we are successful back home,a? he said.
