PUBLIC prosecutor Blessing Tawanda Nyandoro was back in the news last week when it emerged that he was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting his lover.
Mitchel Mudzongachisvo, the lover, claims she was assaulted for deciding to end their relationship.
Mitchel is a mother of one.
She told us that Nyandoro had allegedly been physically assaulting her after she decided to end their relationship.
She claimed she could not stomach being abused daily and decided to move away from the relationship.
It also emerged that she lodged a police report against the prosecutor recently but then withdrew the case after he promised to make peace with her.
That case was reported under IR 070090.
However, she claimed the violence did not stop as he went on to assault her and, this time, she was left with no option but to report the case to the police and let justice take its course.
Mitchel also claimed that Nyandoro bragged that he was well connected, because of his job as a public prosecutor, and nothing was going to happen to him.
The case comes two years after Nyandoro found himself making similar headlines in May 2022 for assaulting his married girlfriend after their separation.
Deria Zimbodza (42), who was the married lover, claimed she was assaulted by Nyandoro at a city hotel along Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.
She claimed she had told Nyandoro about her plans to end their relationship.
Their fracas ended at Harare Central Police Station where the two received counselling.
Nyandoro confirmed exchanging blows with Zimbodza in a hotel room.
It’s not our duty to judge Nyandoro but he knows that, as a public prosecutor, this is not good for his reputation.
He is a man who should protect the law all the time and he should not be seen to be breaking it the way he has done in these two similar cases.
Relationships start and relationships end, it’s the way it is in this world and when relationships end, we should be ready to embrace such eventualities.
Assaulting a lover simply because she has decided to move on is not the best way to deal with such a situation.
We are not saying Nyandoro is guilty of all this but that his name continues to crop up in such cases makes it difficult for him to say these women are creating stories against him.
The first case, two years ago, was bad enough for him and he should have learnt his lessons and ensured that, in the event he faced a similar problem, he would react in a better way.
Men should not take their frustrations on women and turn them into punching bags.
Nyandoro should know this better because at his workplace, every day, he deals with such issues.
He deals with men who would have been dragged to court for battering their partners or ex-partners. Nyandoro knows that all this is unlawful yet he finds himself sucked into such cases, not once, but twice.
