IT was no ordinary Monday when Zimbabwe’s top crime-fighters were told to clean up their act – and fast!
The Prosecutor-General Loyce Matanda-Moyo came out guns blazing at the official opening of the Integrity and Cybercrime Training Workshop for Prosecutors held recently in Harare. And she didn’t mince her words.
“Integrity is non-negotiable!” thundered Matanda-Moyo, urging prosecutors to resist the ever-lurking temptation of corruption. “It’s the backbone of justice and the key to public trust,” she said, as eyes widened in the packed auditorium.
The event, organised by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations (2015–2025), also zeroed in on cybercrime – a modern monster wreaking havoc on Zimbabwe’s economy, security, and digital privacy.
Matanda-Moyo raised red flags over the rise in online fraud, data breaches, and digital scams. “Cybercrime is not coming – it’s already here! And if we don’t get ahead of it, we’re done,” she warned.
Joining the call for integrity and digital vigilance was an integrity expert, who echoed the Prosecutor-General’s concerns. He stressed that safeguarding the integrity of digital transactions is crucial to preventing a total collapse of trust in digital systems and institutions.
With the Cyber and Data Protection Act now on the legal frontlines, the NPAZ is sharpening its prosecutorial teeth – determined to crack down on both traditional and tech-savvy criminals.
As one official whispered off record, “This isn’t just training. It’s a wake-up call.”
