adminCHITTAGONG. – The South African openers led a defiant fightback to take the visitors to 61 without loss and to the brink of an overall lead after Bangladesh had gained a significant 78-run first-innings cushion as bad light stopped play on the third day of their Test cricket match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdbury Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.
Stiaan van Zyl and Dean Elgar were resolute defensively and pounced on the loose deliveries to lead South Africa to 61 without loss at the close in their second innings. It is still 17 runs behind Bangladesh’ first-innings total. Van Zyl managed 33 off 71 balls with four boundaries.
Elgar will resume on 28 today, having faced 56 balls.
A lengthy delay due to rain in the morning session, and bad light after tea forced the players off the field and play was abandoned more than 55 minutes before the scheduled end of the day’s play yesterday. – AFP.
