FAILURE to fathom incessant assaults from her ex-boyfriend led a Mutare woman to seek protection from the civil courts. Appearing before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chigodora, Joyce Mandina, said since her break-up with Lennon Tereke, her life had been a living hell. She said he would come to her house and use obscenities to scold her. She claimed that Tereke was also in the habit of assaulting her.
“I need this court to grant me a protection order so that I can enjoy some peace. This guy is in the habit of coming to my house and insulting me. At times he assaults me Your Worship,” said Mandina. She also told the court that Tereke was refusing to give her back her fresh chip fryer which is her only way of making a living.
Asked to respond to the claims, Tereke had no kind words for his ex-girlfriend. “This girl is a liar and you cannot listen to her. I will not give her that chip fryer because I am the one who bought it. We took it on credit and she only paid $10 for that machine so I will not give it back. I admit that I used to assault her and I have since stopped,” said Tereke.
The magistrate granted the protection order.
