FROM Highlanders’ quest for a fully fit squad ahead of their GreenFuel clash, to Chicken Inn’s pursuit of redemption against FC Platinum, week three action in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League promises to deliver some thrilling encounters that will shape the early narrative of the season.

With a few teams still finding their feet and others looking to build on strong starts, fans can expect some high-stakes football this weekend.

The PSL has announced that it will observe the Fifa international window, meaning league action will take a break and only resume on March 29.

“The Premier Soccer League (PSL) would like to inform stakeholders that the league will take a break following the completion of match day three fixtures this weekend, in alignment with the Fifa international break. This comes as the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors, take on Nigeria and Benin in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers,” the PSL announced.

Saturday Chronicle previews the action before the break.

Highlanders vs GreenFuel

Highlanders will be hoping to build on last weekend’s dominant 4-0 victory over Kwekwe United as they prepare to face GreenFuel this afternoon. While the lifting of their Fifa transfer ban has brought some relief, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu’s preparations are far from smooth. With injuries still affecting key players, the Bosso tactician faces uncertainty over his squad selection.

The absence of new signings pending registration could further complicate matters. GreenFuel, who have held their own against Highlanders in recent encounters will be aiming to spoil the away side’s hopes. Having drawn both their fixtures in 2023 and playing to a 1-1 draw in Chisumbanje last season, Highlanders will be looking to improve their away record with their first victory of the season on the road.

Chicken Inn vs FC Platinum
At Luveve Stadium, Chicken Inn faces the formidable task of taking on FC Platinum in what promises to be an exciting encounter. The Gamecocks have struggled to find the back of the net so far, drawing both of their opening matches 0-0. Chicken Inn will be looking to find their rhythm against Norman Mapeza’s men, who have enjoyed a solid start to the season with four points from a possible six.

FC Platinum, who dominated the head-to-head record last season, will be keen to continue their fine form following a narrow 1-0 win over Manica Diamonds in their previous league match. Chicken Inn will need to show more than just defensive resilience if they are to overcome the platinum miners.

Dynamos vs TelOne
Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa returns to Rufaro Stadium tomorrow with his TelOne side looking to continue their impressive start to the season. After a statement 4-1 win over Triangle United, Maruwa’s side will be full of confidence as they take on a Dynamos side who have been held to two goalless draws in their opening games.

Dynamos, however, are never a team to underestimate, and Maruwa’s familiarity with the Harare giants means he will be eager to prove a point. Both teams are expected to deliver high intensity as TelOne look to push for a top-eight finish while Dynamos aim to ignite their campaign into life.
