The Premier Soccer League governors are set to convene in Harare today for the Annual General Meeting, which is expected to iron out the path for the 2025 season.
The indaba, which usually precedes the kick-off of the domestic football season, will take place just a week after the commencement of the marathon.
Representatives from the league’s 18 teams, including the newly promoted sides, are expected to attend the gathering to be chaired by members of the PSL Emergency Committee.
“This is an important meeting where we will be looking at the preparations for the year, as well as reviewing activities from the previous season. In fact, we have a defined agenda that we follow as spelt out in the PSL statutes. So, we expect a fruitful meeting,” said PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare.
The agenda items for the PSL Congress include the presentation of the chairman’s report, approval of the financial statements, approval of the budget, and any other items proposed by the Emergency Committee.
The meeting is expected largely to ratify the decisions made during the extraordinary general meeting in December 2024, which the league said dealt with the matters to do with this season.
The 2025 calendar of events and the budget were proposed and adopted at the EGM, which was key in paving the way for the kick-off of the current season, which gets into the second week this weekend.
This was supposed to be an elective AGM following the expiry of former chairman Farai Jere and his deputy Lifa Ncube’s term of office in December.
The Emergency Committee trio of Isaiah Mupfurutsa, Moses Shumba, and Masimba Chihowa will continue with the responsibility of running the association until fresh elections are held, as resolved at the EGM.
The mandate also extends to chairing the meeting today.
However, the PSL cannot hold elections today as they wait for a directive from ZIFA, who are also still to ratify the electoral committee to coordinate the elections for all ZIFA affiliates.
