MEMBERS of the public have been urged to expose anyone found participating in corrupt activities.
The call was made yesterday by the director of Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigations Department, Commissioner Crispen Charumbira at the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between INTERPOL NCB Harare and Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson, Michael Reza and ZRP, CID director, Commissioner Crispen Charumbira signed the Memorandum.
Comm Charumbira reiterated the need by people to avoid the spirit of ever rushing hence allowing corruption in trying to manipulate the system.
Commissioner Charumbira said the best way of removing middle people dotted around the essential services is to avoid feeding them with bribes.
“To end corruption, let it start by each one of us and we develop a culture of exposing whoever is found engaging in corrupt activities,” said Comm Charumbira.
“It is my great pleasure as we gather to formalize our partnership through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between INTERPOL NCB Harare and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission
“Indeed, this marks a significant milestone in the fight against corruption and other forms of Transnational Organised Crime.
“This partnership aims to enhance cooperation and collaboration between the two sister organisations in combating corruption and promoting integrity. This event is testimony of a series of engagements between our two organisations in the spirit of enhancing the fight against organized crime.
“Throughout the history of nature, the collective has proved stronger than the sole creature and mentality of working in silos. “Wolves have always hunted together because collectively they are more successful in hunting their prey.
“In today’s interconnected world, it is imperative that we need to find each other as different Law Enforcement Agencies in order to address vice within our communities.
“This partnership will enhance the sharing of intelligence and information on corruption cases, suspects and their networks.
“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission will have access to global intelligence enabling them to streamline investigations through utilisation of INTERPOL databases,” he said.
Comm Charumbira said the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement is the first step into the integration process of the INTERPOL System to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
He said this integration of systems will result in the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission having unlimited access to query the following INTERPOL databases; stolen motor vehicles (SMV), nominal (wanted persons), stolen/lost travel documents (SLTD), Travel Documents Associated with Notices (TDAWN), Facial Recognition databases and financial crimes analysis file. “Results obtained from such searches will leverage the Commission in building stronger cases against corrupt individuals and entities.
“This Memorandum of Agreement represents more than just a formal agreement.
“It is a testament to our shared vision, mutual trust and commitment to our collaboration in the fight against transnational organized crime.
“We strongly believe that by working together, we can achieve more than we can individually. This collaboration will open doors to new opportunities, strengthen our capabilities and bring tangible benefits to the country.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who has played a role in making this partnership a reality.
“Your dedication and efforts have brought us this far and I am confident that this marks the beginning of a successful and productive journey ahead,” said Comm Charumbira.
Reza urged people to expose anyone found engaging in corrupt activities.
He said a number of bogus police officers have been engaging in criminal activities wearing police uniforms.
“Not all police officers are corrupt, some of those engaging in criminal activities are criminals accessing police uniforms.
“I do not deny that among our Anti-Corruption Commission teams are also found wanting, we have noted with concern that there a number of people duping people claiming to be of Anti-Corruption Commission.
“Let us join hands by not feeding such criminals masquerading as police officers and Anti-Corruption Commission members with bribes.
“We are urging every businessperson, individuals to acquire proper documents from relevant offices and avoid engaging these middle persons,” said Reza.
