POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested two groups of suspects who had hidden ganja in blankets, mattresses and black shopping bags.
In the first bust, three Pumula South lads, Mthabisi Mloyi (23), Thulani Ncube (27) and Mlungisi Mloyi (24), were nabbed after police received a tip off that the trio was running a backyard weed shop from a house in the suburb.

According to a statement from Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, officers descended on the house at around 8AM and wasted no time. “Police proceeded to the house in question and managed to arrest the accused persons,” said Insp Msebele.

A thorough search followed and things escalated fast. Officers unearthed 30 satchets of dagga stashed in the blankets and a five litre plastic container of dagga hidden inside a mattress. Altogether, the stash weighed 645 grammes.

The trio did not even bother denying it. “The accused persons admitted to having been selling the dagga,” she said.
As the smoke cleared in Pumula, another cloud of trouble was rising in the CBD.

At around midday, police received yet another tip off about a woman allegedly pushing dangerous drugs at Corner Fort Street and 8th Avenue. Acting swiftly, they moved in on Siphilisiwe Ndiweni (40) of Hope Fountain.

“Police went there and spotted the accused person who was carrying a black shopping bag,” said Insp Msebele. Inside the bag, officers recovered two wrapped plastic paper bags with loose dagga. The haul weighed about one kilogramme and carries an estimated street value of ZiG30 000.

Insp Msebele applauded the public for the intel that made both arrests possible. “Police would like to express its gratitude to members of the public for their continued support in supplying tip offs that aid in the execution of our duties,” she said.

The provincial spokesperson urged Bulawayo residents to stay vigilant. “We urge the community to safeguard the mental and physiological wellbeing of our children by fighting the scourge of drug abuse.”
