A 14-year-old girl was subjected to sexual abuse several times by her nephew while receiving assistance for a school homework in Epworth.
The perpetrator, only identified as Kudiwanamwari, aged 26, is still at large.
He was reported to have started abusing the victim in March. The case came to light after her teacher saw that something had changed in her and took her to the headmaster who interviewed the victim.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the victim has since been taken to Mbare Edith Poly Clinic for medical examinations.
“Police are investigating a rape case involving a minor,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances were that sometime in March at around 2200 hours the complainant was at home with the accused person, who is her nephew.
“The complainant asked the accused person to help her homework. Accused person helped the complainant with her homework and, after that, he started fondling the complainant’s private parts.
“The complainant told the accused that she didn’t like it but the accused person threatened the victim with death if she screamed or told anyone .
“He raped her.”
He added: “The following day, which the complainant could not remember but at around 2100 hours, whilst she was about to sleep, the accused person went to complainant’s room, got into the complainant’s blankets and raped her.
“On the 5th of April 2023, the complainant went to school and she was asked by her class teacher why she was so moody that day but she could not reveal everything to her. She took the complainant to the school head who interviewed her and she told him that she was sexually abused by the accused person.
“Her mother was informed about the heinous act and lodged a police report against the perpetrator,” said Insp Chakanza.
