set to illuminate the Stanbic Bank stage on Thursday May 3, when she goes on the Telecel main stage for her performance. Ogumbo’s latest album KenSoul features a variety of songs and sounds.
The album reflects Ogumbo’s diverse life experiences including catchy songs about her time in the modelling world. Ogumbo is a multi-talented young woman who has not only released a brilliant music album but has also graced the catwalks of Milan, Paris and LA with modelling queens such as Naomi Campbell.
While modelling, Ogumbo wrote the book “The Modelling Industry: Who is the Ideal Model?” in which she denounces the idea of size zero models.
She also penned the humorous yet serious song “Big Ass in Blue Jeans” which targets models risking their health to be slim. Singing since the age of four, Ogumbo was taught popular Kenyan songs by her father from the Luo tribe, which she has incorporated into her album, always sticking close to her roots. Ogumbo worked with Zimbabwean-born rapper ZUBZ on one of these Luo songs, “Maro Pamore”, which is fast becoming a hit single on her album.
She has also worked with renowned South African artiste Tumi Molekhane, who is also performing at Hifa 2012 with his band Tumi and The Volume. Ogumbo will join a host of other visiting and Zimbabwean music stars performing on all Hifa stages this year. The organisers say the full programme will be on sale at the beginning of April.
Hifa organisers also encouraged audiences to book early.
If Ogumbo had followed her parents’ dreams of her becoming a computer programmer, in which she completed a degree, she might not have had the exciting and diverse life she’s fashioned for herself. With only a few weeks to go before Hifa roars to life from on May 1 to 7, preparations for this annual arts fete are at an advanced stage.
