THERE was terror in New Magwegwe when three heartless robbers stormed into a woman’s home and made off with R80 000 she had stashed under her mattress!
The 25-year-old victim was relaxing in her bedroom around 8:30PM on 29 April when the unthinkable happened. Three unknown men slipped in through an unlocked kitchen door and marched straight to her bedroom.
Without warning, one of the intruders slapped her multiple times and threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife if she resisted. Fearing for her life, she lay on the floor as ordered.
The suspects demanded money, claiming they knew she had just returned from South Africa with a hefty sum. One of them lifted her mattress and uncovered a small bag containing R80 000, her national ID, and an OPPO A17 phone.
After grabbing the loot, they calmly walked out the same way they came in—vanishing into the night. Nothing has been recovered.
Speaking on the incident, Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele warned:
“We urge members of the public not to disclose their financial status to strangers or keep large sums of money in their homes. Please make use of banking services to avoid such crimes.”
Total value stolen: R83 500. The robbers remain at large.
