Rachel Goromonzi named in US hockey All-Rookie Squad

where she was recently named to the All-Rookie Squad.

Goromonzi (19) is currently in the first of her four-year hockey scholarship at Limestone College in South Carolina where she is already a household name after only three months at the college.
And following the most impressive season in Limestone field hockey’s brief history, freshman defender Goromonzi and senior defender McKenzie Poirier have garnered the programme’s first major post season honours as announced by Synapse Sports.

According to the official website of Limestone College, Poirier was named as a Second-Team All-American while Goromonzi was named to the All-Rookie Squad.
Goromonzi, a product of Munya Maraire’s World Wide Scholarships programme in Harare and a former pupil of Watershed College in Marondera, delivered the most impressive season in Limestone field hockey history as she set programme records with 12 goals and 29 points while starting all 17 games as a freshman (first-year student).

She also led the team with 67 shots and 38 shots on goal. During the season, she posted a three-goal game against Trine and a pair of two goal games against Mercy and Transylvania.
The latter performance broke the programme goal record. Already named to the NFHCA Division II North/South Senior Game, Poirier was one of six players to start all 17 games for a Saints team that went 11-6 and posted six shutouts.

As a defender, she was instrumental in helping to deliver those shutouts, four of which came in a row from September 10-30.
The last two of those were 2-0 victories over No. 10 Adelphi and Division I Liberty.

Both of those were the first victories of their kind in programme history.
Both awards for Goromonzi and Poirier are the first in the history of the programme.
