RESIDENTS at Melfort Old People’s Home have been left stranded after fire destroyed a kitchen and greenhouse.

The fire broke out at a nearby bushy area on Tuesday afternoon and spread to the home, which houses 19 people.

The greenhouse was donated to the home by Delta Corporation last year.

“We are appealing for help from all our all-weather friends to restore the project and kitchen.

“The unfortunate incident has exposed us and we need help quickly,” said Melfort Old People’s Home administrator, Daniel Francis.

When Delta Corporation handed over the project to the Roman Catholic Church-run home, they pledged to meet various other needs.

Delta Corporation general manager: corporate affairs, Patricia Murambinda, said:

“We promise to act swiftly to restore the greenhouse project.

“We will still honour our pledge to bring smiles to the elderly so that they don’t feel neglected at their time of need.”
