A RUSAPE man allegedly took advantage of his young brother’s under-aged wife’s difficult financial position to rape her after she had been abandoned by her husband.
The juvenile (15), a mother of one, was married when she was only 13 years old.
Her husband left her late last year to stay with another woman.
The accused person (33) who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim was not represented when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Miss Rutendo Machingura last week.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
State prosecutor, Mr Tawanda Munjanja said the accused person walked about three kilometres from Magamba to Vengere to abuse the juvenile on the pretext that he wanted to check if she had enough food supplies.
“On January 28, the accused person phoned the complainant and told her that he wanted to visit her to check if she had enough food and other essentials. The complainant directed him to her lodgings.
“When the accused person arrived at the complainant’s lodgings, she questioned why he had visited her late at night. He told her that he wanted to be intimate with her, but she turned down his advances. He went on to rape her,” said Mr Munjanja.
The matter came to light on February 2 when the complainant revealed the matter to her father. A police report was made.
Miss Machingura adjourned the matter to February 17 for routine remand.
