HEAVY rains witnessed in Bulilima District for the better part of the 2025/2026 rainy season have severely damaged large sections of the road network, leaving communities struggling to access health facilities, markets and other basic services.

Among the most affected roads is the Plumtree-Maitengwe, which is a key corridor road that links Zimbabwe and Botswana.
On Saturday, this news crew observed a cross-border transporter vehicle which was stuck in mud just after the Maitengwe Border Post between Tjilukutu and Tjitabataba villages.

This has forced traffic to divert to use the Bambadzi-Mbimba-Madlambudzi road.
The rains have also stalled local firm Enock Construction Company on their work at the 10km stretch that begins in Plumtree town and extends just beyond Tsambani Shops at Makwa River in Village 28 along the Plumtree – Dombodema Road.
Bukhosi Ncube, a cross-border operator commonly referred to as Omalayitsha, called upon Government to urgently act on resuscitating the road.

“This road is a key player in the economy of our country, as we bring in money through revenue paid at the border post. We call upon the Government to prioritise fixing this road,” said Ncube.
