Bulawayo businessman Cde Raj Modi who is the aspiring MP for Bulawayo South constituency under the Zanu-PF ticket, has been serving coffee as part of his campaign strategy.
Cde Modi who started serving the coffee about two weeks ago, has since been nicknamed the Coffee Man.
The aspiring MP and his campaign team have been serving the hot beverage between 4.30AM and 7AM during weekdays near Westgate Training Centre along Birkenhead Road.
“We are mainly targeting the factory workers who walk every morning on this road to their different workplaces. We saw it as an opportunity to serve them coffee as we engage them during our campaign,” said Cde Modi.
He said the coffee idea was inspired by the cold spell that gripped the city recently.
“It has been very cold over the past few weeks in the city so I thought I could give a service to the people of Bulawayo South on a chilly morning while they listen to my campaign message. We are having some very interesting early morning engagements and I have realised that there is so much to know and to do for the people. People have so many brilliant ideas that could help us rebuild our country,” said Cde Modi.
He said the coffee or tea was served with bread making it a full breakfast for some people.
Cde Modi who has since donated an ambulance to Tshabalala Clinic which will be officially handed over today, said he was already working on a number of development projects in the constituency even before he is voted in.
Health and Child Care Minister, Dr David Parirenyatwa will hand over the donated ambulance to the community.
Cde Modi has provided funding for the construction of a block of toilets at Greenfield Infant School in Bellevue suburb, which also falls under Bulawayo South.
The project which will cost $20 000, is expected to be completed in the next six weeks.
Cde Modi said he also put up a play centre at the school’s ECD centre. — @andile_tshuma
