Zanu-PF Secretary for War Veterans Cde Victor Matamadanda has urged party members to work together with different churches in safeguarding the country’s interests.
Addressing thousands of Jekenishen i congregants at Birchnough Bridge on Easter Friday, Cde Matemadanda said politics and religion could be used hand-in-hand for the development of the country.
“This is a good thing to have the church coming together in remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We also want the church to play its part in safeguarding the interests of the country by praying for our leader, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, and his Government,” he said.
He said the country now had a God-fearing leader who is engaging every citizen despite their religious backgrounds.
“You have heard our President saying: ‘the voice of people is the voice of God’, meaning he is a God-fearing man. It is the role of the church now to help him pray and make his visions blessed by God,” he said.
Cde Matemadanda urged the church to assist President Mangangwa in preaching peace ahead of the harmonised elections to be held in few months.
“You have heard the President calling for peaceful elections; let us all go and preach his word to the people. God comes to us when there is peace and our nation will be blessed,” he said.
Cde Matemadanda said it was important that church leaders encourage their congregants to go and register to vote.
“We have so many people gathered here and church leaders must make sure that people are registered to vote. It is our mandate as churches to teach and lead the society. You have seen several prophets in the Bible working with politicians,” he said.
He said President Mnangagwa was promoting freedom of worship in the country.
